Notice writing for Class 10 ICSE: Format, Examples, Samples

Notice Writing: A notice is a short piece of writing that one sees on the notice boards of schools. It is a formal style of writing and is used to draw attention to important pieces of information. Notices are put up on notice boards to announce events, celebrations, competitions, calling a meeting, holidays, exam dates, to make appeals, informing about some issue of concern, or for any other important thing.

In order to write an effective notice, you must keep in mind the following:

  • Include an eye-catching caption to draw attention of the reader.
  • Mention the purpose of the notice.
  • Mention details of schedule such as date, time, venue, duration etc..

Examples and Samples of notice writing

Question: Your school is hosting an interschool debate competition. Write a notice for your school informing them of the event.

Answer:

War of Words (1 mark)

Inter-school Debate Competition (1 mark)

on 8th December 2021 (1/2 mark)

from 9.00 a.m. to 12 noon (1/2 mark)

at Centenary Hall, St. Hilda’s School (1/2 + 1/2 mark)

All pupils from Classes IX & X who wish to participate are to give their names to Mrs. T. Baker on or before 1st December 2021 (1 mark)

Question: You are the President of a children’s club in your locality. You and your team are planning to organise a programme to celebrate Teachers’ Day. Write a notice, to be put up in the local cinema hall, giving details of the programme to create an awareness of the event.

Answer:

Thank you Teacher!

A cultural programme to celebrate Teachers’ Day

on 5th September

from 1.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m.

at Cinepolis Cinema, Auditorium 4, Viviana Mall

All teachers who are residents of the South City Complex are cordially invited.

Q) Write a notice for the school notice board inviting students to participate in a talk show on conscious living (food, attitude behaviour).
