Good transportation network paves way for infrastructure development. Infrastructure development in India has contributed to modernizing industries and making her one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Different modes of transportation networks in India have gone a long way in connecting different parts of the country through various government-initiated projects and schemes. Major cities & towns are now connected with the remotest villages. Transporting cargo by roads, rivers, seas or by air has played a significant role in the economic development of our country.

The project

You are required to pick a mode of transport (road/rail/sea/air) in India that has contributed to the development of India.

1. Pick any two economically important places in India.
Example::
a. Cotton Textile mills in Mumbai & Cotton rich district – Amaravati
b. Golden quadrilateral – Road network connecting four metropolitan cities.

2. Describe the development of the chosen transport network.

  • a. Length of the transportation network.
  • b. History of development.
  • c. Other settlements/towns/cities that developed due to transportation network between the selected places.
  • d. An expected increase in the volume of traffic.
  • e. Employment opportunities
  • f. Extended future plans for development

Summary

Describe how your chosen mode of transport has boosted the development of many other industries and provided employment opportunities in the region.
