General Instructions

You may use the following structure for writing the project: Cover Page, Index (List all the topics in the right order), Introduction, Main Body, Bibliography, Acknowledgements.

Your written work must be complemented with relevant pictures, maps and graphs.

All map work, diagrams, tables, graphs, appropriate labelling may be done on separate papers.

The number of pages to be written is usually provided by the school. In case, it is not provided, you may write around 4 pages for the main content and about 1 page for each of the remaining sections.

Geography Project Topics for Class 9

Topic: Industrial pollution – A case study of Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation Ltd. Mysore, Karnataka

Introduction (4-5 pages)

  • Definition of pollution.
  • Types of pollution- name and define each type of pollution.
  • Discuss sources of pollution for the types you have mentioned.
  • Types pollution caused by industries.
  • Main pollutants released by industries
  • Effects of industrial pollution on landscape, air, water and human health

Main body of the project – A case study of Karnataka Silk Industry, Mysore (4-5 pages)

  • a. Write the latitude and longitudinal extent of Mysore. (Stick map of India—shade Karnataka on it. On map of Karnataka, show Mysore and on a city map of Mysore mark Karnataka Silk industry.)
  • b. Show the transport routes from Mumbai (air, road and rail). Attach map of your route.
  • Discuss the physical environment of Mysore: Climate (temperature, rainfall, humidity), Soil characteristics
  • Historical background of Sericulture in Karnataka: Discuss the factors affecting development of silk industry in Karnataka. Types of silk produced in Karnataka.

Industrial pollution (4-5 pages)

  • What type of pollution is generated by Karnataka Silk Corporation?
  • What are the types of waste generated?
  • What are the waste management practices followed by the industry?
  • Do the workers face any risk of potential health hazard?

Conclusion (3-4 pages)

Steps taken by KSIC to treat waste generated during the manufacturing process. Lessons learnt by you from the visit to KSIC.

Bibliography (1 page): List all the reference work.

Acknowledgements (1 page): Acknowledge all those who have helped you to work on the project.

Topic: Meteorological instruments and their uses. Six’s maximum and minimum thermometer, Mercury barometer, Aneroid barometer, Wind wane, Anemometer, Rain gauge & hygrometer.

Structure: Introduction, Headings of each instrument (uses, units, how does it work, picture), Indian meteorological department.
