An executive summary provides an overview of the main points of the academic work. The objective is to provide the reader with a quick overview, in case they do not have the to review the entire work. The reader should be able to get an idea of the issue, the conclusions and recommendations based only on reading the executive summary.
To write the executive summary you will need to go through the entire work.
What to include in an executive summary?
- Restate the purpose of the report (problem or proposal)
- Concise analysis of the issue.
- Highlight the major points, including describing the results
- Conclusions, recommendations

Executive Summary (for a Marketing Plan)
Company ABC wants to launch a new product line (sportswear line) in India as various studies indicate growing demand for such products. Internal analysis reveals that Company ABC is well-positioned, both financially and professionally, to launch the new adaptive product line that will strengthen the brand. The new product line represents an extension to their current product line. The marketing plan will benefit from favourable external marketing conditions, existing inventory, and cheap overall manufacturing costs. It is suggested that the essential components of the marketing strategy be put into action, such as the utilisation of influencers and advertising campaigns.
